I was lucky to find Folk and Fairy Tales when searching for
courses. As a transfer student, we have to scrape the barrel. It seemed like it
was meant to be! I love stories, anything mystical, all sorts of literature,
and the likes. I think I’m in the right class alright!
During the span of the semester, I hope to soak up all the
knowledge again about folk and fairy tales, and everything in between. I hope I
can approach literature with an array of perspectives and even argue roundabout
ways to perceive literature. I also hope I hear tales I can tell my future
little ones—stories are so SO important and I am excited to pass along fairy
tale wisdom!
That being said, my favorite fairy tale is Peter and Wendy or more popularly called
Peter Pan, by J.M Barrie. Peter Pan is the first Disney movie I
remember being shown at maybe 3, but for my 15th birthday my parents
gave me a copy of the book. No surprise, I really enjoyed it. I think I also
love all the speculation behind Peter and Neverland. Stories that can be
interpreted in countless ways are a powerful thing. No one ever really wants to
grow-up—it’s inevitable, but Neverland has a way of preserving our sense of
magic and wonder as we grow and blossom into “seasoned” adults.
